"There is nothing more important than self-awareness and self-understanding to bringing peace and compassion to our relationships, and to our world." David Daniels, M.D., co-founder of the Enneagram Studies in the Narrative Tradition (ESNT).
I've always been fascinated by people and the different ways of how they view the world. Who am I? Who are you? What brings us together on this earth? What makes you feel, think and do things differently from the way I do?
The psychological and spiritual worlds have always interested me and when I was introduced to the Enneagram in January 2000, it offered me a framework for bringing these two disciplines together.
Our brains can be seen as pattern-making machines and just as we all have different brain patterns, we also have different personality patterns. From our particular "pattern" will flow our motivations, our thoughts, our feelings, and our choices of action. When we are stuck too rigidly in these patterns, we become prisoners of our perceptions. Life becomes a struggle and our relationships suffer. With awareness, we start to see these personality patterns for what they are. We gradually realize that they simply describe a reality. 90% of our day, we live on auto-pilot. We are often not listening, not looking, or simply not aware of life. We are actually asleep.
Learning about the Enneagram will wake us up to the realities of who we are, how we view life, and how we live our lives. This will help us to relax these patterns so that our lives and relationships can truly flourish.
The Enneagram has changed my life and my passion is to teach it.
